The Yamanba, or Mountain Witch, was once a more common sight on the streets of Tokyo, but their numbers have dwindled to the point where they are now listed as an endangered species. No one really knows what has happened to them, but perhaps they are hiding out in the many mountainous regions of Japan, waiting to descend into the cities in numbers once more. (with thanks to Naoko for description idea) Taken at Ueno Park, Tokyo
