Patricia A Darling, 76, Minot, died September 16, 2012, at a Minot Nursing Home. Patricia Ann Darling was born June 30, 1936, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, the daughter of Victor and Amy (Almquist) Tyson. She was raised and attended school in the Russell community, graduating from Newburg High School in 1954. She continued her education at the North Dakota State School of Forestry (NDSU-B) in Bottineau from 1954-1955. She was employed as a clerk at the Bottineau County ASCS office from 1955-1957. Pat was united in marriage to Donald Darling on Jan. 4, 1957, at Bottineau. They made their home in Rolette and then Grand Forks, before settling in Minot in 1969. Pat managed the Paperback Book Exchange from 1977 to 2005. Pat's true joy in life came from finding that treasured book for one of her devoted customers. Pat was a lifetime member of Order of Eastern Star (OES), American Legion Auxiliary, former member of Rainbow Cross of Color, PEO-chapters AG and AW-and Minot Study Club. Pat devoted twelve years to being room mother extraordinaire, making sure that each of her kids got their share of her years as "their" room mother. Pat enjoyed gardening and planting. She was never so happy as when her hands were in the dirt. She also enjoyed cats and cat related delights. Rare was the day that you couldn't find Pat with a book in her hands, recommending to friends and family a "must read". Pat also delighted in her children, grandchildren and great-grandson. Pat was a long-time supporter of Public Radio. Those who shared in her life, three sons, Gregory (Connie), Fergus Falls, MN., James, Minto, ND, and Matthew, Minneapolis, MN., two daughters, Kathryn (Mark) Lillemon, Littleton, CO., and Natalie (Jerry) Ulberg, Minot: Grandchildren, Katie Darling, Grand Forks, ND, Robert Darling, Fergus Falls, MN, Brendon Darling and Catherine Darling, both New City, N.Y., Geoffrey Lillemon, Amsterdam (Sofie Zwerver), The Netherlands, Jennifer Lillemon (Kenton White), Portland, OR, Jamie Bonczyk (Jeremy Hills-Bonczyk), Minneapolis, MN, Kelcie Hoes (Nick Hoes), Minneapolis, MN, Brad Ulberg, Minot; Great Grandson Caleb Hoes, Minneapolis, MN and brother Jim Tyson, Rhame, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald Darling, and an infant brother and sister, Robert and Kathlyn Tyson. Service of Remembrance: Friday, September 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m, at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the guest register, Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment: A private burial will be held at the Russell Cemetery, Russell, ND following the service. Memorials are preferred to the Russell Cemetery or Prairie Public Radio.
